supplements for sps reef

So I'm starting the thread to see what u guys are adding besides ca and alk to your tanks, ii been reading a thread on reef central most of the guys are dosing amino acids + some lugols solution( both brightwells) any luck with that. Ty
 
subscribed. I haevn't dosed any chemicals like CA or alk, etc cuz my weekly WC's take care of that...

I'm interested in the ammino acids and foods... I'm feeding reef chilli every other day as well as Azox coral food every day. Trying to get my SPS to get more PE.
 
I only have a few sps frags in my tank, but I do dose fuel once a week, azox every couple days, essential elements and tech-I once a week. All my corals and anemones seem very happy. I dose everything based on the instructions on the label. The sps pieces do seem to have good PE, my red monti plate has a very clean white rim of new growth and has doubled in size on a monthly basis. I have a piece of spongeodes I broke a nub of on accident and in less than 3 weeks now you would never have known a piece broke off, along with the fresh growth.
 
Fuel by sechem- amino acid, I was thinking to dosse potassium iodine to bring blues and purples pop but don't know if I need that,what does the tech1 contain (fishbeard()
 
I dose Seachem's Reef Fusion for trace, Seachem's Reef Plus and Aquavitro's Fuel for amino's. I've heard that you shouldn't dose aminos unless you kep a low nutrient system. If you're registering NO3's and PO4's then adding aminos will "Fuel" your algae growth (pun intended :becky:)

IMHO...the best thing to "dose" is a weekly water-change to replenish trace. I do weekly wc's on Saturday and dose the Fusion on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I dose the aminos 3x per week.

Check with Markitek about the potassium. He was dosing it for a while but I think he stopped for some reason. I've never dosed it myself. If you do, lemme know how it turns out.
 
Lysy85reef, I too am thinking about Lugol's again or pottasium. Currently I dose nothing but do about 5 to 10% water changes per week. My blues are pretty good but purples are aweful.

I have 20k bulbs over them, which is supposed to be good for purple, but nothing. I'm also thinking of trying the Neuco 20k's since Radiums don't come in 250 w HQI and they're supposed to be pretty close. I'm always looking for that elusive silver bullet.

If you check with Markitek, I'd like to know how potasium worked for him as well. Menard melted all his sps by overdosing.
 
I dose B-Ionic Cal and Alk now that i spread my WC out a little longer. I dose 3 times a week at night after the lights go out. As long as your doing regular wc's, have a good skimmer, you should be fine not having to dose anything else. My Sps are growing like crazy and have great color. I bought a 3" montipora from Aquapros about 4 months ago. Not joking, its about 9"x5" now
