I just impulse bought an ATI 8x54watt Dimmable Sunpower fixture. I have a standard 75 gallon. Will that be overkill. Im planning. SPS all over that tank. Should I try to trade down to a 6 bulb fixture? Or maybe upgrade to a 120 gal tank :)
 
Upgrade to 120. I used 6 bulbs ATI on my 120 and was more than enough. Or you can only run your bulbs at 70-80% over your 75 gal.
 
No such thing as over kill!!! The 8 bulb combo should give you a great selection to play with.. Your SPS frags should grow up nicely...

Yes the 8 bulbs will give you better control over color, but trust me this light can easily burn corals in 75 unless you hang it high. But then you have lot if light spillage and wasted energy. There is such a thing as overkill.
 
I had my 8 bulb TEK over my 75gal.. Hanging about 10" above water... The ATI ballast are way stronger than the TEK, but your fixture is dimmable and bulbs should last longer if not ran at 100%..
