Timer for powerhead

I added a power head to my 75 today. Instead of let it run 24/7, I plugged it to a timer making it run on and off at different time to see if the corals like it. Some mechanical timers can do the same.

If you're using non-DC pumps (controllable pumps) give it at least a 15 minute gap between on/off cycles. A/C motors need to rest between cycles. I ruined a few old school Koralia's like this. They would eventually start backwards then stop working completely.

Yup. What fish wiz said is true. Eventually youll end up getting a wave maker.
Tunze work well with controllers. As far as digital or mechanical timers. Usually best used when running lights or dosers.

Thank you all for the info, BTW, the minimum gap on my timer is 30 minutes.

That's good to hear, I could pulse up to minutes on my old Aquacontroller, bad idea lol. Eventually cheaper controllable pumps hit the game and I never looked back.

I only run one MP 10 when lights are off. I guess I'm giving the fish and the corals a little break.
