UV or no UV?

Thinkin about putting a uv on my 40 breeder. Wondering what everyone's thoughts are on running or not running uv sterilizers. I have heard they can have negative effects. Are the positives greater than the negatives? Can anyone fill me in on both? Thanks.
 
On a reef UV will nuke pods and other beneficial bacteria, along with increase dead material floating in the water column. Also, if any food passes through it, it will be nuked as well, and potentially have negative affects on the coral. It would be like use eating food exposed to radiation.
 
i run a 36w uv on my sps reef 24/7 dont really feed corals if i remember once a month never had issues and water is super clear been running a uv for last 5 years
