Water temp dropping?

So unfortunately my clumsy self forgot to turn the heaters back on after doing a water change yesterday before work and had left the tank to sit without any heaters on for a full 24 hours, I didn't notice today until I realized my torch was probably 80% retracted and other corals in the tank didn't have their polyps as extended as usual so I thought it had to do with the water change. Before I decided to test anything I glanced over at the thermometer and saw the temp dropped to 69 degrees! (My room's in the basement.)

All fishes looked fine initially, I turned the heaters back on and slowly raised the temp back up. I'm just hoping I don't lose any of my corals but everything looks okay so far. Has anyone else experienced their tank's temp drop and was anything die off or melt?
 
Yeah I lost power and my tank dropped to 72 from 78.5 and everything was fine. You should be okay but you never know. I now have a generator for future outages. Keep us updated.
 
Eheim jager heaters have auto shut off for over temp. Another reason why they are the best heaters out there lol

Fish and Corals will all be OK , time to relax a bit and enjoy the weekend :-)
 
Haha amen to that! But by any chance do temp drops cause any kind of bleaching to corals? Just wondering lol

So, on the other extreme, I keep my tank at 78 and yesterday I added a GFO reactor(mj1200 pump) and when I got home from work today the tank was 84deg!

Everything but the nem looks fine, but the nem is 'melting' :(

Took the heater out, turned off lights, skimmer, reactor and put a gallon ziplock bag of ice in the sump...5bags of ice later still 82deg :(

Don't have mixed salt water ready to go, so I poured 1/2gal of 70deg RO water into the sump 8o

Temp in tank is down to 81, temp in sump is 77...should stabilize at a reasonable temp.

Went ahead and added salt, 76deg heater, a powered head to my 20g brute of RO in prep for a water change later tonight or in the morning...

Gotta figure out where the heat came from...

Sorry for the late! But that sounds rather interesting. Might it be from the MJ you hooked up to power your reactor?

Well the trick to stabilize was open the windows! LoL.

Once down to 77 I started turning things back on and things seem stable at 78...with the reactor running and the windows closed :)

Turned the heater down to 75 and keeping an eye on it.

Curious about the eheim 'over heat turnoff'. Is it adjustable?

My overheat has me thinking about controllers with notification ability! For low temp or high temp, it would be great to get a digital notification and possible functional actions....
