I have a reef tank with 6 fishes. I have a lot of LPS, SPS softies, couple clams zoas and others.For 4 years I used 150w 10.000K MH and 4 T5 460 and 420nm,54w. All Current brand. I'd like to change now. Finally I think it is too yellow. I asked you about good T5 brand and look on internet. Looks like ATI is brand to go. So I want to buy Phoenix 150w, 14.000K and T5 by ATI. But ATI makes "Aquablue", "Blue Plus" and "True Actinic". DO you guys have any expierience with them. Which way should I go?. No too yellow not too blue I'd like to colors to pop.... Thanks
 
ATI also makes a purple, I have used all 4 bulbs. If i were you I would go with 2 blue plus, It will give you that pop that you are looking for.
 
I am installing two 12,000k, one blue plus and one purple plus tomorrow. I also have 460nm led supplement light for color. I do not have MH lighting but would be happy to take a white balance adjusted picture of the tank with and without the led lighting on to give you an idea what color to expect from a 4 pack of ATI bulbs.

I'm running a nova extreme pro t5 x 8 bulb 54 watts each. I have been purchasing ati bulbs for it in sets of 2. 2 blues, 2 purple 2, 420's , and 2 aquablues. I really like the combo, it brings out the colors like crazy. SPS look incredible under them and I have seen decent growth.

Arthur I also have a nova extreme pro t5-6 bulb. I stoped up at aquacave last weekend and picked up

when I was talking to the guys they said that the purple didn't add any growth but would make the colors pop. I wanted growth and ati doen't make any mid day the best company was giesemann for that. After installing them I have to much white I'm thinking about pulling one and adding one blue plus. I'm in bolingbrook if you want to stop buy. aquacave has 4.95 shipping on anything no upcharge for bulb packing. They are a warehouse no showroom.
 
Are you set on the phoenix 14k as your MH bulb?I would probably do this: Radium 20K MH,2 ATI aquablue+,1 giesemann midday and 1 fiji purple.I have seen this bulb combination and looks awesome.
 
It sounds crazy. 20K is the most blue you can get fromMH right? That tank will be all blue. Am I wrong?

Thanks for your offer. I have to figure that out. Like I sad I still have to figure out my MH. Sounds really complicated. It is to much to choose from. Not sure 10.000 or 12.000 maybe 14.000K MH and thouse T5s. What kind will look good together? Ooooohhhh I have a headache..Who sad that hobby is relaxing...

Now things getting really confused.I run my bulbs like this. 2pm all 4 t5s turn on after 1.5 hour MH turn on as a day light with T5s still on. After 6 hours the MH turn off. For the next 1.5 hour only T5s then leeds for night. So I need MH as daylight. T5 as supplement for nice colors

This question has yet to be asked, what are you looking for as far as color. Do you want a white tank (yellow), a white tank with a hint if blue, a blue tank, etc...???

What I do is go on RC, because there are alot of people on there that show setup pictures, look at pictures or even post if someone has a light setup that you are looking at. This is how I ended up with my T5 bulb setup I currently have. The bug issue is everyone likes something different as far as color. I tryied to create a shallow reef with a more yellow white with a hint if blue. I run 4 blue pluses a aquablue special and a GE 6500k. This is an all t5 setup not really going to help you, since you are using MH. I did run the phoenix 14k 150 watt bulb by itself. It's a crisp white with a hint of blue. Really nice bulb by itself.

Thanks Logan12. Yes I think I just have to try and see. Everyone likes something diffrent.There is no perfect set up. I think in next month I will change my 4 T5s. I will by ATI 2 Blue Plus 1 Actinic and 1 Purple Plus. In septemser is time to change my MH. I will buy Phoenix 14000K. Hope it will not be too blue.

Will have color combo pics for you this evening. Wanted to give the bulbs a couple days to burn in. I LOVE the combo I chose. These pics might even convince you to dump the MH and go T5! Probably not, but they do look good. Ive been converted, it's ATI all the way for me from now on.

Sorry it took longer than expected, had some other things to do last night.
Anyways, here are the pics, all shot in raw mode, and all color balanced to the same values, hope these pics help. Obviously the light and color are much more impressive in person. They are labeled and should be self explanatory, white is on, red is off.
Ignore the mess, the cardinal in the critter keeper is going to a new home friday...
