What pump to get?

Hi all

My friend is building a tank he is going to have his sump in the basement. The tank is a 58 gallon with a 40b for a sump, so form the sump to the tank is 7 ft up straight shot. So what internal pump will work for this?

Anything in the 300 to 600 gph range should be good. I've had great luck with Rio+ pumps, still have the same one from my first tank 10 years ago. And they have a private label on ebay for super cheap.


$20 for the 500 gph which is middle of the road for the range you're looking at. $13 for shipping, but still $33 for a brand new pump.

Google head loss calculator, it will help you determine right pump. That pump that Ben recommended will not even lift water 7 ft. Up straight. You need stronger pump.

You might be able also to run reators off it to avoid other water pumps if to strong..

Wow, totally missed the 7ft, my bad!! You'd need at least 1200 gph then to be in the right range. Sorry all!
