What type of controller do you use?

After reading a post yesterday about what temp you keep your tank at, I decided that I should really have a controller on my tank. I'm gonna be moving in about a month and I really want things setup better then they are now. Any suggestions on what kind I should get? I'm a little clueless on this topic. I was trying to do some research on it last night but there were way too many products.

I bought a Reef Keeper Lite. It's simple and cheaper then most of the others but doesn't have as many features. They can get pretty expensive but it is really a matter of how much you want it to do. You want graphs and charts on your computer with mobile controls, or is a little controller velcro'd to your stand okay ? :)

Yeah, biggest question you need to answer is do you want a controller or a report-out controller. And then decide how many things you want to control. Most tanks outgrow the ReefKeeper Lite pretty quickly, but they are great for price point. I have the ReefKeeper Elite, and I love it. Simple interface on the device, nothing overly fancy, and I didn't spend the money to get notifications on my smart phone because I don't find it necessary. One of the best investments I've made to my tank. Controls almost EVERYTHING, and is incredibly simple to use.

+1 Great system to use! I am able to control and moniter all of the parameters in my tank at a glance or in detail with the graphing program that the Net Mod runs from home or at work if I wanted too.

Ultimately it's your decision both Digital Aquatics and Apex do the same things with slightly different price points and extra's.

So I got a reefkeeper lite. been just few months and I want to move to elite....Just saying question should be Reefkeeper Elite or Apex.

Originally I was thinking that I wanted something to just pretty much control the temp. Right now I say that I don't need graphs or anything like that but I'm sure if I don't get all those options then I'll be mad at myself.

With the Elite you can get graph reporting when you connect to a computer via the USB connection port. Also makes for super easy programming as well. Unless you want to see your tank stats on your smartphone, then I don't think you'd need the NET module. Some people love it, but I can't just drop what I'm doing if something goes wrong. I know some would like to know, but for me, out of sight, out of mind, lol.

Ohh okay...I have a RKE and a RKL. I started with the RLK and decided that I wanted the growablitity of the RKE, so on the Digital aquatics website they have a replacement plan. Where you return the RKL and get a small discount on the RKE. Well long story short I didn't and keep both! LOL

For simple things like temp DA RKL/RKE keeps the temp spot on! You can even minimize the constant high and low that you would normally have with the heaters built in thermostat. Heres where the piece of mind comes in, my heater will never fail in the on position. If there was something fishy going on I would know about it, because I have an alarm that wil notify me if the temp get too hot!

Hope this helps a little.
