I'm pretty sure I bought this same kind at AP. Not sure what it is either. Would be nice to put a name to it. I've had it for a while, and it's grown alot.
ID-ing the particular species of gorgonian is really tough, but it is most definitely a gorgonian, and likely a non-photosynthetic one at that. Given that ADOG might have the same one and its growing (best way to know that its healthy), ask him for any care tips! I bought one at AP recently too, but mine looks a little different, also a blue one though! Good luck with it, sea fans, especially non-photosynthetic ones, are notorious for being more difficult to keep alive. Here's a nice link for more information on sea fans in general, goes into generalized flow rates, food size, and so on.
Sorry for the multiple edits, but I found a bit more info. Perhaps we have the same type afterall, but mine has a much more definitive tree formation. Regardless, perhaps yours is a Guaiagorgia, bluberry sea fan being what many call them? Perhaps not of course! If so, they are deeper water species, and reports vary as to whether high lighting is actively detrimental, or simply not necessary. Good luck eith yours!
Thanks for the info. I also purchased it from AP. the guy at the store, not Dave, said it was photo synthetic, but the more research i do, i think that it may not be. Whats tour secret ADOGG?
