As the subject implies...trying to save some gas driving around looking for the stuff. Trying to increase my light penetration and getting rid of my glass covers. Where can I buy the egg crate material I see all over. Is it covers for florescent lights?
I found mine at home depot i wanna say it was by the ceiling tiles you can call atound and ask before you go then paint it black with that krylon fusion stuff
usually Home Depot, lowes, or menards carry the egg crate. just go to the lighting area or ask an associate. you might want to call before just to make sure they have them in stock.
lowes or home depot. They call them "light diffuser" they are white, if you want to color them black (like for frag tanks, or just cover, some people like black) you can use Kraylon Fusion plastic spray paint which is aquarium safe.
You might check BRS for a build your own screen kit. That thin mesh would probably be better for a cover and for light penetration. eggcrate is definitely available at HD though. It's about $22 for a 2'x4' piece.
+1 on all these suggestions. I've gotten mine from both menards and home depot yes this is a light defuser for regular flourescent lights it should be by the ceiling tiles or lighting depending on which store you visit.
I don't like the stuff that BRS sells. It's so brittle.
My local LFS sells the black stuff and it's much softer and easier to cut. It also links and unlinks in squares with these built in locking grooves. It's pretty fancy.
I keep an open top reef tank with a ton of fishes. I've only had one anthias jump out, which I knew it was a jumper coz it kept trying to jump out of the bucket during acclimation. I prefer open tops because I love my corals more and like them to get maximum lights
If you are looking for a top to replace glass tops for your tank go with 1/4" clear plastic mesh which many of us have extra of and a DIY screen frame kit.
