Which pump to choose?

I am looking into putting a sump with an overflow box on my 40 breeder. The rise from pump to the tank would be 4 feet. I was thinking of using the Rio 1400 or 1700. Would either of these work? How many times does it need to turn the tank over? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If buying a new pump spend a little more and go with a quiet one 2200. If you are set on rio, the 2100 would be a better choice.

The quiet one is kind of the step between cheap rio and expensive mag drives. They work really well and not very loud. I'm upgrading my rio 2100 to a quiet one 3000 soon.

Yes they r. I have a rio 1700+ in my 27 g cube and is great. Idk if it will b enough for ur 40br but it is a good pump.

I have used Rio and Quiet One for years on both saltwater and freshwater. I would choose Rio over Quiet One 10 times out of 10. They are quieter and run cooler. The new UL listed pumps don't have any of the problems that plagues the old ones.

That being said, I would ditch all of that and get an Eheim 1260 for your setup.
