Yes, yet another 'what skimmer should I buy thread' ...

Alright - Please give me your thoughts/opinions on a new skimmer. Currently have a 29gal standard w/ a 4gal HOB Fug running a Aquaticlife 115 Mini Skimmer (rated for 30gal). In the very new future I plan to drill the tank and add either a 10 or 20gal sump and therefore want to upgrade the skimmer since this is a reef tank.

Any suggestions in brand/model for say 50gal volume?
 
Do you want to go used or new? Most insump skimmers should handle 50gal + with no issue. It just comes down to how much you want to spend. I have seen $100 skimmers used go for sale all the time and some are good IMO.

So the less you pay or more will depend on your choices of skimmers.

I have a ASM G1-X and does fine for my needs. Which I paid $100 for it used.
 
Thx Bam and Gus - I will look into those - Gus, I just did a quick search... $170+, were you talking $100 used? What are some good places to look if I were to order? (local and/or online)
 
Personal Thoughts/Opinions on a Red Sea berlin airlift protein skimmer 60. Size is right, and I believe a CR member has it listed at $45...
 
RC members have them under $100 shipped all the time,sorry i did mean used.I had one in a 34g cube with a 15g sump and it was a great skimmer.I don't have many experiences with smaller skimmers.

Open,the valve is there to control how high the foam head forms,if you cap it,it gets Super loud.
 
Gotcha - Sorry im running on 1.5 hrs of sleep and 8 hrs into a 10hr shift lol. So both ends are open? the valve is to control the bubbles INSIDE the chamber, correct? (Sry brain isnt functioning right now)
 
Correct,if/when you get it lmk,i can help you mod it if it isn't already done and show ya how to make adjustments if needed.I'm sure you can do it,i'm just saying in case you need a hand.
