WP40 and what I think...

Team CR
Got 2 last night from group buy with ThinkFuture. Will post picture later...

Bad:
- Let me say my feeling when first saw...too big compare to my Tunze 6055s and MP40s. It's same size with Tunze 6105 or 6205.
- Build quality is ok and cannot compare to Tunze and Vortech... but better than Koralia pump.
- The controller look cheap that why the price is cheap.
- Cannot turn off the sensor and it acting weirdo (need to change the sensor)
- The pump shake a little when use the maximum mode (H), but not move.
- The magnet is ok but not strong like Tunze and Vortech.
- Cannot dial the speed down
- There is no different between Mode W2 and W3 (may be there is but I did not see it).
- No English Menu. I need some Chinese friends here to translate the menu. I saw a English menu but didn't see anything about the ELSE MODE.

Good:
- The shape the same like Tunze 6105 and 6205. I like it except it too big as I state above.
- The H mode is really strong (I am not recommend this mode for small tank)
- The L mode is calm good for 75 gallon and under (not good for MADJOE TATOO JOE's 6 gallon tank)
- All the Mode working very good.
- There is W1 MODE make very nice heavy wave (someone will like it but not me)
- I like the ELSE MODE, it pulse some nice little wave few second then change back to normal about 1-2 minutes then wave again. It's really nice.
- The flow better than MP40 and Tunze 6055 (compare to mine) I saw it better than Tunze 6105 in THINKFURTURE's tank.

Future:
- I don't know how long it last. My MP40s and Tunzes still working now (2+ years already).
- Hope it run two or more years then I am happy.

Problem has to be fixed:
- Sensor

Tha'ts all I saw last night about 2 hours. Stay tune for further information

Mai, this is a great breakdown for those who were looking into them. thank you hope they resolve the sensor issue quick for you

I've heard the sensor has trouble with either T5 or LEDs but I can't remember which. Can you maybe try putting the sensor under a different light and see if that changes. I am curious about these pumps. If you have multiples, can they be connected to each other in any way?

Nate, they cannot connect all together unless you may DIY (or may not). I will open the controller and see what is inside later this week. I try move the sensor 3 different light but still no good. I think it's good for the money.

I forgot about the noise, it's a little noise but ok for me. The noise like a soft whistle and funny. You can hear it about 1-2 feet away.

Good write up Mai's daughter.....:) At least you are helpful then your dad, he is just a critique otherwise.

I agree to most part with Mai's feedback. However, the build quality, at least the stroud & housing is better thickness then the Tunze, Richard & myself verified this yesterday with a caliper LOL ;)
The controller is Good, & I'd have Loved if I can control the intensity & this is a down side IMO, but on a positive note, it is controllable using a regular PWM with minor mods.

The sensor does not effect me, neither Tunze nor Vortech come with sensor (at least not anymore WRT Tunze). Even if you want to use the sensor it is not a Good idea trying to expose the control box under your lights (In other words just over your water), & the sensor is certainly not a deal breaker for me.

Like Mai said, now is a test on How long this will last, so far it looks very promising & I highly recommend it.

FYI: In my ~8' tank, with 4 pumps I get amazing flow & up to an inch of wave. I see a better flow than 4 X MP40's & 1 X 6205
As of now the WP40 gets a thumbs up :top:

I like my small waves :D I'm still testing the night sensor using my T5's and did notice it come on last night.. Will check again today for results..

Lets hope it will last more than 6 months

Very nice write up. I think there is a general issue with the sensor. I had my controller in the cabinet and used a small light on a timer to kick it on and off. Sensor went bad , went to radio shack bought the exact replacement and it didnt last 5 hours and started up again. I now have it on timer.

If you want to decrease power I found a LED dimmer that would work on ebay. It should be in later today and you could adjust from 12-24 volts. I had a issue in wave mode of it throwing water out of my tank.

Here is the link to it

Im thinking if you could drop it down a little around 20v or so the noise would be alot more quieter and would help with the durability of the powerhead.

Shaun' son, you are same s*** like your dad. I am talking general for people without APEX, ReefAngel like me...First open box. The sensor will be nice if it working right (not a deal breaker for you but will be for someone). The build quality, please check the new tunze (not your old Tunze)..I am recommend it but not highly.

Do you have to open the controller box to replace the sensor?

im the forgotten man here, Shaun you visited joe and i only live like 2 minutes away :(

Wouldn't a VDM in theory work to change the voltage and modify the power and speed of the pump?

No way Jose!
I thought you moved somewhere on the south side....sorry bud. But first your visit & petting the Angel is pending ;)

Let's catch up for a beer. Mai is certainly going LOL....I'll set a time

Got to mod the control box to attach to the VDM....this is the Mod Dre posted on the other thread.

Cool Beans, I don't follow the other thread, just figured i'd make the comment for the others here who were getting the pump. (guess I missed the bus.)
