Nuvo 16 lighting

hahah how is it confusing ? 20x 3W means 20 pcs of 3 watt leds ..

If that is for 20 individual 3w LEDs then it is a good price and will work for what you want. If it is for 20 LEDs totaling 3w of power, it will be worthless for you. The description is kind of confusing in that regard.

Because the entire description is "EVO Quad Clip 3W Timer Ready LED Aquarium Light Nano Marine Coral Reef 20x 3W" and not "EVO Quad Clip 60W Timer Ready LED Aquarium Light Nano Marine Coral Reef 20x 3W" and the price point is very low for a 60w fixture. That and I only read the heading and not the actual ad...oops!

Reading down though it does show 20 pieces at 3w each. I would confirm with the seller how much power is actually being delivered to the diodes since often times 3w LEDs are run at a significantly lower load due to heat/consumption (20x3w doesn't necessarily mean 60w output).

Even if they are run at 2w though, that is PLENTY for what you are doing.

Seems pretty reasonable... But I would like the opinion of someone who knows what they are talking about

Yes, reasonable, probably fine. Typical Chinese chip fixture, confirm it runs at 60w (or even 40w) and if so, buy it if you like that color.

What corals would this light and my two skyye lights be able to grow?

Underneath this light likely anything you want, towards the edges of this light under the skyy lights, probably LPS/Softies/Zoas.

Just a heads up, I'd do some review research. That gooseneck looks "iffy". It may be just fine, but you don't want it to sag over time. It's not something you want to overlook. CoralCompulsion provides very well built, expensive goosenecks, and those are just to hold up PAR bulbs. That's the reason I stuck with modding the skkye fixture, I didn't want to figure out how I was going to mount a DIY heatsink. The $25 fan option may be a good idea, as well. I couldn't tell you how well the heatsink will handle the heat. Other than that, it looks like a good score.

I'm sorry... What's a heat sink...?

It's what the LEDs transfer their heat to. It's made from aluminum and the LED is mounted to it with a thermal conductive adhesive or thermal grease with mounting screws. If it's inadequate, the LEDs will overheat and have a much shorter lifespan. The cooler they run, the better off.

it has a 30 day money back gurantee.... i may just buy the light and see how it goes.

however, i am a little cautious. i cant find any reviews of this product online.

i did stumble across an opening video of the freshwater version on youtube. it looked to be decent quality.

I would be careful. I just looked at the display photos of it again, and they've got the light angled at a major incline, which tells me the gooseneck isn't very sturdy. The weight transfer will change substantially when the light is perpendicular to the tank. The whole light just looks way too big for that arm to support it properly. Just my .02

Only reason I am mentioning this, is because I have tried with a similar gooseneck on a previous DIY project.

Note the pvc pipe I had in place, because the neck would not support the unit.

Alright then I think id better not risk it with that light... Do you have any recommendations for another clip on light?

having second thoughts now.. i think i may get the EVO fixture and if the gooseneck is too weak, ill modify THAT.

instead of my lights :)

finally found some reviews.... that light is crap.

budget is 80$

somebody find me a light that i can add to supplement my two 8w 14k skyye lights PLEASE :)

Alex, I believe shovelman was selling his for $80 or so. Try sending him a pm, or see if you can find a group buy light from somebody. I put a cc120p over my nuvo, which is similar to the gb lights, and it looks awesome, and can grow anything.

I'm still not quite understanding why you haven't already gone with a Coral Compulsion Par30. There are plenty of DIY hanging solutions or you can go with Jimmy's gooseneck.

Bulb is $60 and if you DIY something you can hang it with some conduit, an extension cord and an e26/e27 socket for $10 and look totally professional.

http://coralcompulsion.com/led/PAR-BULBS/led-21w-18k

For another $3.50 you could even get some 90* optics on it to further supplement the light under the stock skyye lights. I bet if you asked Jimmy he would swap the optics for free.
