Acrylic tank - need foam between tank and stand?

I have heard a lot of people with acrylic tanks putting foam under the tank between it and the stand.

Is this needed?

What product would you recommend?

Any one consider themselves an acrylic tank expert?

I've never used foam, but i usually used stands with thick flat board where tank rests on.

I built the stand out of 3/4" ply and the top surface is 48"x24". I figured it would be good but wanted to see what others have experienced.

I use 3/4 foam sheet from the hardware store under my acrylic 4x4x2. It was recommended to me by the manufacturer of the tank when I got it.
