Does anyone use these for a quick and dirty check? Granted a titration or colorimetric test is more accurate, but what are the groups thoughts on a simple dip stick test for following a tank cycle, or routine testing supplemented with a less frequent and more accurate test?

Just wondering, thanks.

They are crap for getting accurate readings..... That said.... I have used them to watch the start and the progression of a cycle when starting up a new tank. I am starting one now and wish I had some. They are quick and convenient..... That said, I would not make any moves post cycle without testing with a quality test kit. The strips are not accurate.

Thanks Dan,

That's my thought on these as well, only for watching a cycle, and then real test kits later on. Cheap test though, $0.10 per test, or $0.40 per strip with 4 parameters tested at once. carbonate hardness test does not seem to give good numbers though.

Test strip do not give any good numbers.... all you can use them for is cycling in my opinion. But.... before you add any fish or corals...or inverts...etc... test with a good quality kit. Don't use them for any other purpose....even the occasional test of water parameters....
