What type of backflow preventer is everybody using for the clear plasic flexable hose? Also were is the best place to buy?

Ok here are my thoughts on vinyl tubing. Ditch it as soon as possible. While you can have a very successful reef aquarium with this type of plumbing in the long run it may lead to problems ie algae growth, kinked hoses which could cause a flood.

How can hose cause algae problems?

As for hose causing algae, I've heard when using clear hose that light might grow algae in clear hose then possibly causing a clog. But I'm using black vital hose and working good for me.

I know it isn't the most professional looking but it is easy and I change it every couple years when it gets too hard from the salt water but that only takes about 5 min. Is there a good check valve I can use, using this material?

I've used clear braided vinyl from BRS for my return and drain hoses and my fuge light is on 24 hours. I've never had any issue growing in either.

Never said an algae growth causing the clog. Cheap vinyl of the unbraided type easily bend causing pinch points.

Do you still use braided vinyl tubing now?

If you could get a straight run of vinyl tubing that is always vertical then you possibly could cement one in, but it has to remain vertical because the valve shuts using the weight of the water trapped in the tube. Any large degree of angle would allow the air to slip pass and allow the water back down into your sump. I have never tried using PVC cement with vinyl. Sorry I know thats no real help. This is why I upgraded to spa flex and PVC pipe.
