Before and After Carbon

If you dose the VC to the tank, the corals are going to be able to use it before it breaks down in the water. If it's sitting in a dosing pump, it's breaking down in there. Let me know if you'd like me to post my dosing chart. The company we purchase it from is not offering free shipping & I can give yo90u a code for $5-10 off your 1st purchase.

Thanks! Maybe just the way you worded it made me misunderstand. The way you said "as soon as it hits the water it breaks down" made it sound like that assumes we are storing the VC in water or something. Anyway, thanks for clarifying.

And I'm staying away from reefs for a while so I can get fish that would eat them, but I appreciate it! I may throw some cheapo palys into my angler tank that can handle the higher nitrates, but other than that... :)

I have a very healthy tank with great color, and fast growth. Would dosing vitamin C be benificial for me? Also do you have to dose with vinegar or carbon when using this product. I currently do not use either.

Vinegar is a source of Carbon (different from activated carbon). There are a million threads on carbon dosing and theres all sorts of ways to accomplish it. I just happen to go with VC and vinegar since there is quite a bit of info to back it up and im seeing good results. Check RC's thread on Dosing.

Each different carbon source boosts different nitrifying bacteria. VC is a natural carbon source, which feeds nitrifying bacteria to remove nitrate & phosphate from your water. It'ts removed by your skimmer, which goes nuts with skimmate for a while, when you 1st start dosing.

The difference between using VC as a carbon source compared to others (vinegar, sugar, vodka, etc, is it also boosts collagen production in all cells, which strengthens the cells & increases the immune response in corals & fish. I just had a yellow tang with a huge gash in it's side (I think the Convict tang must have chased him into a rock) & it was completely healed in 5 days. I have also healed HLLE in my purple tang. I started trying dosing, to heal melting zoas in my tank.
