Ecotech Night Mode Settings

The Night Mode with all of the Wireless Ecotech products is really cool. The Radion LEDs even have the ability to kick the vortechs into night mode when the light goes into its night cycle.

Whats the Night Mode on the Vortechs?

It reduces the flow to a constant flow (no pulsing) and drops it down to 40% of your daytime setting. Some believe that this is unnecessary and counterproductive as coral needs MORE flow at night, but it does make the fish happy. I have noticed no negative effects from using Night Mode over the last 10 months.

3+ years of no negative results of using night flow from vortechs. they still get plently of flow and polyps are always fat and super extended.

Is there a night mode in nature? does the ocean slow down? I know the tide rises, but I've never heard anything about waves slowing down.

My experience is that things do settle down from a wind standpoint which will reduce wave action onshore. Of course other weather factors can offset this.

I believe most waves are created from wind or high and low pressure systems.

Scientifically, solar gain causes the air to move around as molecules are heated which causes our weather.

Isn't it true that there is less air movement at night? Less wind? Wouldn't that result in smaller waves?

I believe it has something to do with the High tide and low tides (IDK). I always read that High Tides occure at night which raises the current flow over night which results into SPS extending there polyps farther to grab ahold of whatever Phtyoplankton they can consume. but don't qoute me on this.

Waves on the surface and flow under the surface, or on the reef, are completely different things. While the surface of the water will calm down the flow beneath the surface does not (to the same extent).

That being said, would a moderator mind moving all the "night flow" discussion to a different thread as it has little to do with this light fixture?

with high tide there would be a higher volume of water on the reef, with the same current under the water. more water n the same movment would mean less velocity. since the same forces are pushing more water. am i wa off on this? just makes sense in my uneducated brain

yes or did i miss what this was about ?

The radion lights put the vortech pumps into night mode wirelessly at the appropriate time...

You can also set them to night mode on their own. At whatever time you want the pump to go into night mode, you need to hold down the left button and center button until the light starts flashing different colors. Once it starts flashing different colors let go and then hold those two buttons again until you get a "breathing" white light.

The pump will then go into night mode at that time each day and stay in night mode for a certain amount of time (I want to say 8 hours but it may be a little longer).
