Hey guys!!

Im new to this forum... Its good to see that we have one dedicated to the chicago land area! :)

So i wanna knw ur guys input on my 2.5 aqueon mini bowfront.. im just using this tank to grow cheato algae and copepods... Was wondering the stock lighting is a 15 watt bulb.. was wondering is that ok to grow cheato morpha algea? and do u guys know if i can upgrade or change the bulb to make it better..

Thanks jep

It can grow under 15w, but may be slow. I'd get a strong watt if you want quicker growth. If you are buying bulbs at home depot, make sure it is at least 6,500k for the appropriate spectrum. Also dosing with phytoplankton will help your pod population grow quickly.

and...

Was wondering do u guys knw of any great place to get cheato morhpa algea for cheap or for free.. i have only a small amount.. hence for why im using my aqueon to grow some

and im just curious.. any thoughts on fish or inverts i can put in the 2.5 gallon.. i knw i heard ppl say u can put a clown goby.. but im not really interested in adding that fish.. do u guys thnk a emarld crab would be ok?

thanks jep

@Poidog
THanks.. i'll look into that.. gonna go later on the day to find some bulbs.lol

chaeto - people give it away from free sometimes, of you can find it on the web for a nominal charge.

An emrald crab would be fine. A pair of gobies in th pico would be cool. you can do it as a colder water reef and get a pair of catalina gobies. They are really pretty.

Oh really.. if u knw anyone giving free cheato let me knw.. i need some lol

Thanks.. i thnk i'll look into the emerald crab.. but i'll search up about the catalina gobies.. wanna knw what the're all bout..

thanks again..

+1 on the catalina goby....they are beautiful fish. But beware...they like cooler temps and will not do well in a more tropical temps. If memory serves me right...you need to keep them in 60-65 degree water. They are nice and small and colorful.

I also like the neon gobies. I have seen them in the typical neon blue....but also in a neon yellow. They are pretty nice for small tanks!

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks i actually have a blue neon goby in my 14 gallon biocube but i didnt knw they come in neon yellow.. thats awesome :) thanks

They also come in a blue and yellow merged stripe called shark nose gobies. They are a hybrid of the two and bred by ORA (along with the yellow ones because the waters the yellow lined gobie comes from, off of brazil, is protected).
