Help! Over night o lost a nice SPS colony.

Yes. I've had plenty of fresh cut acros sold to me. It does have less chance of pests, because they usually hid by the base of the acro or plug. Everytime I buy from Copps, its usually fresh cut before shipping. They just have a higher chance of dying during shipping or acclimation.

It was in an established tank. I just transfered over. Every other Colonie on the rock is great. I did not dip for 2 hours I acclimated dripped for 2 hours. I dipped after the Colonie was 85% gone to see what would come out of it.

Thanks for all your input guys i have come to the conclusion that it was in fact RTN and have accepted it since no other SPS shows stress. I will continue to monitor for any future change es if any.

I'll chime in but I'm not an expert, by far, so take it or leave it.

Personally, I prefer fresh cuts and I have a very high success rate with them. There are less changes of critters since there's no plug or rock to collect them or their eggs.

Even the pros lose their existing colonies to RTN and they never really know why. Cherry Corals lost their awesome Heaven and Hell milli and there are a tons of examples just like that. If you don't see any more RTN'ing and you don't see any weird creatures, I'd just chalk it up to something strange happened and move on.

As far as dipping in iodine for hours; I don't dip in iodine but I would imagine dipping in anything that long wouldn't be too good. I always dip and when I do, I use Bayer at a a concentration of 10 ml/cup of tank water for 15 minutes. (That almost sounds like the Most Interesting Man in the World commercial.)

+1. I refer fesh cut too...I got some fresh cut from other reefers and still good. Coral on frag plug have lot of thing on it which you never know..I cut some SPS from my big tank and put dirrect with super glue into the small tank, some of them alive and few gone RTN. So I don't know why even my small tank parameter all good.

BTW, I dip new SPS only 3-4 minutes (sometime only 1 minute for smooth skin SPS) and aclimate about 15-30 minutes.

Also if there is no pest, don't take it out and dip it. Leave it and you will have chance it may come back.

I dont think fresh cut has 50percent chance of dyeing i always get fresh cut and request fresh cut ive lost maybe two over night. Theres always a reason behind why a acro rtn sometimes just takes a while to figure out. Every acro is diff like my temp swings 2acros stn rest were fine i was stumped found my answer on accident. Prob is can be so many things maybe just wasnt happy in that spot flow light etc . Like u said just keep eye on rest if all good dont think to much about it can drive u nuts trying figure out why one died and not rest

I can't name one person with SPS that hasn't lost an SPS . It's just part of life . I've had SPS that should have died prove indistuctable while others that die if you look at them. Sudden change has been the cause 95 percent of the time weather light ,water quality or ph /DKH .
