LED Configurations - What works best (from your experience)

I have the opportunity to change out some LED's as I am migrating from my 90g Cube to a 180g tank.

I currently have two IT2060's and soon to be three units that I am looking to other members to share their wisdom, experience, or research on the best LED bulb configurations for best growth and color for SPS and LPS.

Let's hear some success stories!

Bump!

I know there are many reefers out there with custom configurations. Let's hear about them, your successes, your learning's, and what you would change on round 2!

I had two IT2060s over my 220. They worked well but we're too short, so then ends of my tank were a little dark. That wasn't a huge problem though as I don't like to light up my overflows. The bigger problem was that they are only 8 inches wide and did not cover the front and back of my 24 inch wide tank. I could only grow sps in the center. I added a supplementary led bar across the front, but it did little. If you stick with the IT2060s, you might try supplemental t5?

For color, I took out many of the whites and replaced them with royal blue. This allowed me to ramp up the white channel without washing out the blues. I think I my have had my light too intense though. My monti caps always grew down and not in a pretty upward spiral. I experimented with flow and there was no change. With my new lights, I'm going to go with less intensity now that I have better spread.

I prefer DIY as you can easily do a fixture 50% more powerful than the Radion Pro at half the cost and consuming less watts.

Avoid any fixture that advertises 3 watt BridgeLux LEDs. BridgeLux no longer makes them they are knockoffs.

Also some advertise a 10K, 14K 17K Cool White. This is simple nonsense as it is impossible with single chip technology to create a phosphor coating greater than 8K. Caveat Emptor.

I've found and have heard that Cree LEDs offer the best spectrum especially with the right Bin of their Cool Whites and Royal Blue.

Thanks all for the replys. I will take this into consideration when replacing my LEDs. Any great places to buy Cree LEDs from?
