My battle with aefw

Just wanted to document everything and get advice on whether I'm doing things correctly.

background
Got home Sunday afternoon from a weekend getaway to find my tank looking quite ugly. No PE on any sps, torches weren't fully open, alot of zoas closed up. Didn't check all parameters as I plan on doing a water change anyway but alk was 9 and Cal was 480. Checked an sps and this is what I find right away

So I broke all my sps off the shelf in the 93 and moved all sps to the 30 and cut the 30 off from the rest of the system.
Then I went out and bought some bayer and dipped all of my sps. Found some eggs on some plugs and on some epoxy around the base so I cut all the plugs off and cut the epoxy off.

Dip dosage
Talked to Adam at battlecorals and he gave me his dosage for bayer so I used 100 ml of bayer for about 2.5-3 qt of tank water and dipped for 15min.

Man I was doing so good and this seems like it came out of nowhere. Not sure where I picked it up. If I knew how long it'd take to get to the magnitude of the infection I have then maybe I could figure out where but for now idk.

Me either so it could be something different

ack! this is getting spread around like herpes! be careful of QT tank. people keep losing most/all their SPS by moving to QT tank. it's almost better to break the cycle by dipping and putting back in your tank, dip once a week, and after several weeks, cycle will be broken.

That's what I'm doing since 2 dt run off same sump I just cut the 30 off and dipped all pieces in bayer and put back in the 30.

Yeah, I'm one of this "people" that lost my whole tank due to bad QT conditions.

It this point, I'm really scared to even buy acros. Now that I've stocked up, I'm not going to add any more for a long long time.

Good luck anarchy.

Oh man that sucks. Sps reefers worst nightmare. Luckily u have 2 DT running already. That should help big time with keeping them alive. Mayb try to pick up 2-3 wrasses and put them in there also. Should help and get rid of them faster

The problem I'm having is nothing in my 93 is fully open. Almost all zoas are closed, torches not fully expanded, mushrooms and Rics aren't fully open. Seems like nothing is happy which is blowing my mind. Did a 20 gal waterchange so we will see if that helps. Only thing I can think of is last week or 2 weeks ago I added a ton of flatworm exit to kill some acoel flatworms that showed up in my tank and I added more and more because my bottle was expired and wasn't killing them. So maybe toxins from that is making everything mad? I've done a 10-20 gal waterchange after doing that though

I'm guessing that not enough flatworms were siphoned out after the FWE treatment. That could be the cause of the closed zoas and torches. Did you run enough carbon after treatment?

Yea that could b the reason y all ur other corals aren't doing so well. Over dose of flatworm exit then the toxins from the flat worms would b causing some problems. I would run a bunch of carbon after the WC. Didn't u also just add a big leather coral from ur 27g? Mayb that's releasing toxins also. I would look into that also.

Not yet for the leather. But I'll throw some carbon in and let it get some of the toxins out

It was almost successful because he had so many other bugs too. It looks promising.

Yea i just read some of it theres alot of pages lol looks like just gotta remove fish and buy alot of salt but definilty worth a shot if u have lots of colonies or high end stuff . And has to be better then trying to keep a coral qt stabile

I bet the planera flat worms were keeping the aefw in check once u killed those of the aefw took off ive seen were people treated for red bugs and after the treatment they found aefw added nothing new never seen signs of them untill the red bugs were gone. Maybe one keeps the other in check who knows

So today after water changes and everything I checked on the pieces to see how they looked after the dip lastnight and almost thinking I should toss all this bullship in the trash and start the collection new in a few months. Not sure as of right now. Going to get all other problems fixed and get all my other coral looking good before I get that drastic, but if the other corals (torches, zoas, ect) start looking good and the sps still have no PE and look as bad as they do then I'll probably send them to the trash and get the tank pest free once again then restart my sps collection. Honestly only mad over a few pieces. 1 in particular that I havnt seen anywhere else. If anyone has this exact tenuis let me know! If so then I may toss the collection.
