Ok guys, so i have two new pico tanks.
I have a modded 5 Gal Fluval Spec V. I picked it up from Karl. (IcedEarth) It has LED Lighting.
I also have a 2.5 Gal JBJ Picotope with stock PC Lighting.
I have thought about both set-ups for a while and narrowed my choices.
For the Fluval Spec V, I am going with a sandbed and vida rock. I might have to do a custom piece because of the tank being a landscape dimension. I need a longer one that I can work with. (That's what she said.) I debated black or white sand and I did my research on it. I think I will go with the traditional white sand.
I am only putting one fish in here. A tiny clown or a goby. At the max, two fish or one fish, one shrimp. I haven't decided for sure but definitely no more than two tiny ones. For coral, I am thinking a nice torch or frogspawn as the centerpiece of the tank and then some other frags to grow out. Any suggestions are welcome.
For the pico, i am thinking of doing a bonsai pico. Again, probably getting the rock piece form vida rock and I am going bare bottom on this one. I want to put some GSP on the bottom to look like grass.
Here is a pic I got my inspiration from.

I am thinking GSP on the bottom like that one, and then some shrooms or rics on the base of the rock and some torch on the top. I might do a tiny goby in here too or just some sexy shrimp. I still have research to do on that because I want to be responsible about it and a pico has major limitations obviously.
I am totally open to any honest feedback you have about my ideas. I would love ot hear what you guys think, even if you think it is stupid.
Both of these tanks are sitting on my desk. The fluval is sitting on the desk hutch and the pico on the desktop.
