Night light

You can buy moonlights at a lot of LFS. The question you should ask...is whether you need them. The majority of what I have seen suggests that there is absolutely no value to the inhabitants of your tank. It is purely for the human owners, us, to be able to enjoy the tank somewhat after dark and the lights are out.
 
I have a 29 HQI too, I bought this from ebay and was able to simply put it below the HQI arm with black ties. Works very well and even let's me move the angle of the light. I agree with DanSreef, this is only for me and no beneift that I can tell to the softies I have.

I would save the money and put it towards stock or supplies for the tank. You won't miss not having moonlights.
 
Without a controller to replicate moon cycle it really is worthless unless you have fish that are afraid of the dark! lol
I use moonlights on my breeder tanks.

Moonlighting (even without a natural moon cycle) will induce spawning in many fish and inverts. For a bio/nano cube just get the single R2 moonlight. You can stick it under the factory splash shield and it's the perfect brightness and coverage for those tanks.

I like to run moonlights for 3 hours after lights out. Just don't run them all night.
 
The JBJ Nanocube LED ADV has 3 sets of lights and they suggest (the 2 page manual) keeping moonlights on all the time, using the 4 corner actinics for dawn/dusk cycles and the full grid for daylight. Do you folks disagree with the always on moonlight? I like the look of them in the dark (convenient shimmering nightlight)but they are pretty bright (you could easily read by them). I won't want to be stressing my fish if they prefer a darker period, but on the equator at night, it is rarely pitch black. Sorry to Hijack, but I've been dying to ask about this.
 
hmm interesting. I have two strips of generic blue LEDs mounted on the underside of my LED fixtures, for the night lights. They turn on with my fuge light, and turn off when the LEDs on the DT turn back on at 8am, so there is always a faint blue even all night.

Tank has been this way since March, and have never seen any negative effects (from what I can tell). Everyone goes into their holes at night to sleep, the saddleback snuggles in her RBTA, and corals get smaller, then expand in the morning.

Maybe it's just me, but it works just great over here. Just my .02.
