Plumbing question

I received my new 300 gallon tank yesterday and now in the process of planning the plumbing. This is my first reef ready tank and I'm wondering how you guys plumbed your dual overflow tanks or if you have any suggestions on how I should. I don't want to drill anymore holes and I don't want to plumb up the back. So I'm thinking I may go herbie style with main drain and return in one side and emergency drain and 2nd return in the other overflow.

Woo big boy tank for your first tank. Wish I could help buy I'm terrible at plumbing. Good luck with it keep us updated.

Nice big tank can't wait to see it.. Wish I could help but I have no idea how to plumb at all reason why my tank is not up and running yet lol

Im guessing when you say you don't want to plump up the back you mean the return. The reef ready tanks Ive had had two holes in the bottom on both sides the larger one was the drain and the smaller one was the return. If you bought the tank new it should have come with the plumbing for the over flow. If you can take a picture we may be able to give you some better suggestions.

When I had dual overflows in my 180 I did HGB style and returns per overflow. If I would have done it over I would have done HGB with emergency and either drilled new return holes in the back panel or through the canopy.

Next tank I'm doing a bean animal since it has 4 holes in one overflow.

I have a similar setup (smaller tank) herbie style (one full/syphon, one durso). The amount of water a full siphon can pull is ridiculous, but you need that second pipe both as a backup, and to maintain the syphon (keep a little flow in the second standpipe, or the primary syphon will break at the smallest disturbance, and make a bunch of noise each time). Use a gate valve on your syphon to dial in a speed matching your pump.
