Return pump noise?

Do the RIOs vibrate a lot? I currently have my 37 gallon cycling and my roomate can't stand the vibration/humming coming from my current return pump that is transferring noise through the floor. His bedroom is directly under my bedroom which has the tank in it.

I tried putting tubing under the return pump but the vibrations are still transferring through the floor.

I'm running a rio 3100 and its quiet up by my tank. But in my basement under my sump u can hear the hum.

Ive had so many quiet ones they junk dont last more then two years then crap out. And only r quiet for dew months . I got tired of returning for warranty so went with marine land one. My pump on my 75 is original pump 9 yrs old from marine land still working but all vibrate on floor of sump. I actually put exercise foam pad under sump helped alot on my 90 my 75 i put filter pad floss around pump to shut it up. Was never really loud in my apt but was down stairs in uther apt helping kady with tv and i was like wow y didnt u tell me it made that much noise lol. With the foam and filter floss much better

I have the eheim compact 3000 and a mag 9.5 running and they're both acceptable, but the compact 3000 is absolutely silent. It makes FAR less noise than an MP10 and if it's the only thing running the sound of water going over the overflow is all you hear. I definitely recommend the Eheim over the two. No hum, nothing. I truly have to touch the return pipe sometiems to make sure it is on. The Mag isn't overbearing, but you can defniitely hear the hum and it lacks the dampening structure of the Eheim's bracket.

I have the QuietOne 3000 going for 2+ yrs and can't hear it.. I like my pump!!

If you can afford a Eheim go for it as they are the best pumps for the money..

Mag pumps kick a$$ also... I own a mag 5 and works great.

Dont listen to the crazy Rio heads :p

Thanks guy for all the input. Which Eheim compact or Quietone pump should I get? I currently have a 37 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump that's plumbed Herbie style with a 1 inch main drain and a 1 inch emergency. The return is plumbed with 3/4 inch locline. The head height is 3ft 5 inches.

I've had both the Eheim and Quiet One pumps and both had unacceptable level of noise for me, especially that my tank is in living room. I went with Laguna Max Flo pump and it is completely dead silent. You can't hear it even when you're right next to it. Those are basically rebranded ATB pumps. Go on amazon.com they have great deal on them.

Yes those are the ones. Take them out there protective cage. They have different models depends on how much flow you need. I have the 1500 model. If you search on RC there is a good thread about them.
