Thinking about LED's...

So guys...I've been thinking about making the switch to LED's... If I do, it's definately going to be two of Prestige's SPS-55 units... Right now, I would ideally want something that ramps up and down each channel... But his quote for just a basic ON/OFF sps-55 unit is also very tempting... I'm wondering what you guys think? Better to just spend the extra money for that ramp up/down feature? Or does it not make a huge difference from a coral standpoint?

I'd appreciate the opinions, even though I think I have my mind made up on something that has the ramp up/down feature...

Imo id get the ramp up and down from a coral standpoint i dont know if it matters however for me personally to be able to start lighting tank in morning to late evening without haveing light on 100 percent you can start at blie 10 percent for few then start ramping up and start mixing the whites also of both were on at 100 percent you would have three colors blue white or both being able to dim them down is really nice because it sems more natural. also you can get the color you want by playong around with it im no po but i new when i bought new lights this was a simple must have for me and it was exactly what i wanted that prestige led provided awesome lights btw good choice

DIY, Typhon controller, can have up to 4 different channels ramp up and down for ya, dusk/dawn, daylight, and a high noon to make all those sps you collecting really smile in your tank! Or build 2 smaller fixtures and get real fancy with the dimming to simulate the sun shifting over your tank thru the day. That would be sweet.

i seen this one guy's diy build where he had the light shift from right to left over his tank throughout the day. like the sun was going by over head. at midday the whole fixture would be lit up, then start fading to the left. really cool

That's what I'm talking about. Some really sweet stuff you can do with DIY without breaking the piggy bank.

Hey Eric- Are you looking at the SP55D 3 channel 165W model. I like the Ramp Up and Ramp Down feature that I could program into my old ApolloLED....of course I needed the Apex controller to do it. These SP55D models have on board controllers that can ramp / dim all three channels.... NICE!!! I have two on order with Gus. I for sure like the full spectrum that Gus has with his lights....over the Apollo. Couple that with the 1 year warranty Prestige offers.... I think you will be happy you dropped the extra dollars for the ramp / dim program feature.

I was pricing out DIY's at Rapid... and I think it's really hard to beat the price for these SPS55 Deluxe units... At rapid, their 36LED diy kit would cost me 550(for 2 36led kits) alone without the heatsinks, electronic dimmer, and the cyans/reds/ uV's etc... There's like no possible way for me to come close to the cost of the SPS55Deluxe.
WTH!! Is our area going LEDS now...

I say pay up front and get the dimmable ones IMO..
Lol, i was never thinking about changing... but my dad wants to change to LED's now that I need new bulbs for my Halides. I'm just worried about my Rainbow BTA's... I don't want them to brown out again after like 7 months, it's starting to look better...

Thanks, I knew Prestige would be the one I'd go with if i go led's. Reviews are outstanding and price also...

That would be pretty cool... but I can't see spending the money to do that on a 4 foot tank, lol. Wouldn't be as cool :p

Yup, I'd go with the SPS55 Deluxe units. 2 of the 120w over my 4' 75gal.

i dont have led's so idk, but ive read that they wont make your nems fluoresce, which has been true with most of the nems i have seen in real life under led's
