Vortech MP's or Save my money??

They are very nice powerheads that put out a very wide flow. They also don't warm up the tank since the motor is on the outside. A little pricey, but you do get a lot.

Considering the resale value is worth up to 80% the value of the powerhead, they are definitely worth it.

Thanks, next question... If I have a 90 Gallon cube, do I really need a MP40 or would two MP10w do the job?

Been doing a little research and im liking what i am seeing/hearing about the WP-40's & WP-25's, no doubt Vortech MP's are the shiz, but for 1/5-1/8 of the price of an Vortech MP-40 am Jebao WP-40 seems like a win. and if it craps out in a year or two, which most pumps (vortechs included) have been known to need a component or two within that time frame, you can replace the Jebao for less your going to pay for the external motor on the Vortech MP, but if your aquarium budget allows, i dont think it gets much better than Vortech for power heads. one thing though, the Vortech do not have an "aim-able" head flat to the glass and thats it. Just my $.02

When first buying a tank, calculate how much you plan on spending.
Now multiply that number by 10 and you are almost there.

Haha, completely agree, and that's if you buy the right equipment from the start. If not you will end up spending even more.

I tried both of them and I can give my opinion on them.

The Jaebo WP moves a ton of water for a very low and affordable price. The MP does the same thing but has tons of bells and whistles. Both are great pumps.

Personally, I had to trade my WP-25 for an MP-10. Even on the lowest setting the wp-25 was too much for my tank. I have a 28 Gal Nano cube. It just depends on the tank and what you want. I don't think the WP's have wireless sync either while the MP's do.

I also liked all the little options and settings on the MP-10. I love the reefcrest setting and how they turn down at night. The WP's do this too with a light sensor.

It really comes down to personal preference and budget. If you just need the flow and not all the other stuff, then go with the WP. If you want all the different programmable settings then go with the MP. For me, even the lowest settings on the WP were too much for my tank.

I also like the way the MP sits on the tank. The majority of it outside and the little fan inside. That's just me though.

i definitely prefer the sleek look of the MP, what is your standpoint on not being able to direct the flow at an angle with the mp?

It's pretty clear that MPs have a lot of bonuses going for them - easier to program, they sync, wider flow (WPs have a more narrow beam relative to MPs), and have a much sleeker profile. Really, they're better in almost every way, except for one massive downside - cost!!! Well, that, and depending on what you're looking for the upsides may not be that spectacular either - WPs create plenty of randomized flow and waves, if that's all you're looking for, save the money. Unless you really like that low profile of an MP (I understand that completely by the way, were trying to make beautiful tanks after all!)

If you have a nano, be cautious purchasing a WP 25... You will also need a lower voltage power adapter than has been provided with it ($15 - 20). Despite down-volting mine, the only way I could make it work in my 30g cube was by pointing it across the back of the tank more or less directly at the rock..... I still get neat looking waves though, lol. Every other direction kicked up a huge sandstorm and threw frag plugs all over the place.... Nothing was happy in the tank, lol!

As for not being able to point an MP... I never felt the need to? They work best pointed at a flat surface across from them anyhow. Well, actually, they work best pointed at a flat surface with another MP on the opposite pane....

In my opinion, I'd go with the mp10..only reason I say that is because u have a wide variety of things the mp vortech pumps can do.. Like u can pre set ur feeding mode and night mode, can change the intensity of the pump to mimic ocean waves to calm waves.. And u can also get the battery back up which would be awesome incase of a power outage. And dnt forget vortech has amazing customer service.. Only draw back is the cost is high but in this hobby u get what u pay for..

With the WP-25 aka turtles cost is extremely low which is a big plus, they are powerful pumps, and are controllable .. I've personally seen these guys in a friends tank and dam they are powerfully but do wonders.. To me only draw back is lack of other multiple functions, don't really know how reliable customer service is incase of malfunction or issues with the pump, and we don't know what's the life span of these pumps..

Breakdown if ur a reefer on a budget go with the WP-25..
But if u want the best go with the vortech ..

Hope this helps bro

Fine. I'll be the one person to vote against. Lol. I'm sure the Ecotechs are nice, and have great settings and all, but they are not needed to run a successful tank. I've gotten by for yrs with Koralias. I could never justify spending soo much on a powerhead. I can personally think of too many other things I'd rather spend my money on. Just my opinion. :eviltongue:
