Vortech MP's or Save my money??

Fine. I'll be the one person to vote against. Lol. I'm sure the Ecotechs are nice, and have great settings and all, but they are not needed to run a successful tank. I've gotten by for yrs with Koralias. I could never justify spending soo much on a powerhead. I can personally think of too many other things I'd rather spend my money on. Just my opinion. :eviltongue:

Lol, yup! I like the MPs a lot, I have them on my 90... On my 30, I went with a WP, and depending on the tank would likely do more WPs... Unless I can find an awesome deal on them, or am doing a tiny nano (then it would be an mp10 or small koralia / tunze)

I definitely think they are worth it my corals reacted very well to it and opened up more plus it gets rid of that constant high flowing current like other power heads and it lets the coral open up

Vortech pumps are awesome, they move a lot of water and are easy programmable. Motor stays outside tank, therefore no heat is transferred to water. I had two MP 40 on my 120 gal. unfortunately they are just too loud for me. Because the motor is outside you can hear it when it speeds up and slows down. When set about 50%, it is almost dead silent, but above that level it gets very annoying. Don't get me wrong, it is not very loud, but more like humming noise that is very audible, especially if you have completely quiet tank. If you have typical noise associated with reef tank, ( return pump, skimmer, etc.) you will not notice them at all. In my case they were the loudest thing on my tank. I changed to Tunze and could not be happier with those.

I have tried they all...lol!! But the Tunze, WP & MP are better for flow wise IMO.. Tunze will need a controller to have those great flows!! You have to look it this way!! If you will be in it for years and always have a tank.. Some might say I'm sick for saying this..lol!! The MP is a great investment but the MP10's aren't for 4ft tanks but can be used. Most likely you will be running them at 90% to manage good flow vs the MP40. Than is comes down to looks!! The MP has a great slim look vs the tunze & WP.

The WP40 will work great for a 4ft tank or bigger as reported on threads. The price is great IMO!! The price I paid for mine vs a MP40.. I could have gotten 3  So think about that!!

So don't let these MP heads trick you if you aren't sure for the long run..lol! Hate to see members all the time get out and try to sell this high end equipment for cheaper.. But I do love the good deals!!

If u have the money get mp's. If you're ballin on a budget look else where. I'm currently running 2-mp10s on a 4' 75 gallon and am more then satisfied. I have the ramp all the way up to 100% and that high up they do get a little noisy but other then that they are awesome.

I have had both Tunzes and MP10's and 40's. Personally I like Tunzes the best and feel they are far more reliable than the Ecotech's. When I had my MP's I went through two dry sides and a wet side on the 10 and one wetside on the 40 in the two years I was running them. To me they were also noisier than the Tunzes. I currently have 8 Tunzes running and will unlikely use anything else.

I have one mp10 on my 27 cube. It's really powerful and the flow is pretty wide. They're really nice for a few reasons. Many have already mentioned them, but for me, I like that the motor is outside of the aquarium, it's fairly sleek, and you don't have power cords in the tank.

On my 50 cube, I currently have one mp40 running, I have a second one sitting next to me on the floor which I'll be adding within the next day. I have a pretty open scape but found that a second one would help to add flow and keep detritus from settling.

I don't have any experience with tunze at all. I've read a bunch on them, and everyone that owns them seems to always give them great reviews. The only downsides to them is that you'll need a controller for them, as well as having cords in the tank. If you already have an apex, you're 3/4th's of the way there.

I have used many different types of power heads and now use mp's I like not having wires in my tank and I like the slimmer look inside the tank. the flow is amazing and the patterns are fun. IMHO they are worth the money

Vortech has a flow calculator on their website. Just type in the dimensions of your tank and tells you what you need in an easy to read graph for both lps and sps tanks.

+1 on the wp's. I'm running 1 wp40 in a 5' tank and boy is it kicking some water around. You can set them to go in wave mode, random , ect... You can buy 2 for less than the price of one name brand one. IMO

FYI - If you are in the market for some MP40s there's a seller on RC. Two for $500 shipped; Gen2 and I'm pretty sure they're wireless.

I have an MP40 and had to put WP25 in to avoid dead spots in my 65gal currently. I just got another WP25. The mp40 is a great pump but IMO you must have a pump on both ends of the tank or you will have dead spots on a 3' plus tank. Plan to buy two of your pumps of choice. The plan is to sell the MP40 and run two wp25's controlled by a reef angel. The cost vs performance trade off to run two MP40's vs two WP25's was to big.
