white water

ok guys what would make my water turn white ish ? I did a water change and the salt was verry mixed up and totally dissolved so that's not the problem... it looks very cloudy and has been for at least 5 hrs ...

If it is a bacteria bloom i believe a water change only provokes it by feeding it more, if it is a bloom i think you just have to let it do its thing till the bacteria balances out but i would def make sure its a bacteria bloom your dealing with

"Water changes will probably not clear the cloudiness as when you remove the free-floating heterotrophic bacteria, the others will reproduce more to compensate. Given the reproduction rate of the heterotrophs, it would require a 50% water change every 15 - 20 minutes just to stop the bloom getting worse, and even more if you want to make any progress towards clearing the bloom."

I would personally check your water parameters and if nothing is threating would leave it for a couple days for the bacteria to balance out. Also I dont know if you have live stock in there but try to feed as least as you can.

That's why I do a true cycle on all of my tanks. Dr. Tim's is nice and all...but nothing beats the solid foundation derived from a two to three week cycle.

Thats weird that you have nitrates and ammonia I would imagine that it would have already gone thru the cycle and should only be nitrates if you have any nitrates, maby its still just cycling this stuff this is fairly new to me to. My new tank i set up about a week or 2 ago is going thru a bloom to but I have zero ammonia and i know something happen cause just like you I had a low amount but def some there like 0-.25, im on day 2 but it seems to be clearing up. I would keep a close eye on the ammonia.
I also chose the cheater way out and used api quick start. I do know the tims and the quick start have been proven to work tho.
Did this just start happening today?

Could also be an Alk/Ca imbalance causing Ca to precipitate out. Might wa t to check your parameters.

i think it was because i was trying to bait my peppermint shrimp ..and i put a lot of food in a 1/2 cut bottle ...and i think i might have over did it .. but i did do a water change i though would fix the problem... ok so i have to wait it out

Suck the remaining food up if there is any. That would have to be alot of food tho i would imagne. What size tank was it?
Thats the route im taking its still cloudy in my tank but like i said seems to be clearing up and my ammonia is at 0. I would def take more opinions tho like I said im pretty new to this to but thats what I have been hearing that water changes dont clear the water IF its a bacteria bloom going on.
