Why using tap water is bad.

Was looking for ideas n glad I seen this set up! Thanks for sharing. Eric thanks for explanation was wondering the same thing.

While I agree with what you're saying, I was very successful with tap water in my FOWLR for 10+ years. I never had algae issues, my tank looked pristine, and I have some really old fish (8-10 years).

I use only RODI these days because I'm going to corals and nems, but if I were to go back to FOWLR, I'd probably just use tap. Sorry, I know everyone here probably disagrees. Just my two cents.

I also used tap water when I first started in SW. I did have some algae but nothing more than I have now with RODI water.

don't tempt me on this one guys. I haven't bought an RODI unit and have been using distilled water from wal-mart and have had regular diatom blooms until I switched to the cheaper fill your own bottle RO kiosk also at walmart.

I am married with 4 kids and can not convince my wife that it is a cost effective purchase when water is so cheap to buy. I say that we could bottle our own water and not have to buy those stupid 16.9oz bottled drinking water as well.

Yeah best practices but when you do something and it works. Some one tried talking me into using rodi in my freshwater. I've had those fish for a decade on tap.
