Skimmer advice for 75g

Hey all,
I'm looking to purchase a skimmer for my 75g tanks. The issue is I have limited space, and limited funds. I know these things are pricey, but I want to purchase the most effective one I can afford. I'm running a 75g tank with about 30 gallon sump. The skimmer chamber is only about 9x15. I would say my tank is med bioload right now, but will get heavier as time goes on.
I was looking at the reef octopus Classic 150int... Fits my budget and my sump. I would like to keep the skimmer under $300....I can maybe go up a little, but nothing crazy. What other suggestions do you have? I was looking at the Classic 160 as well, which supports a larger bioload, but says results vary in tanks under 100 gallons which made me shy away a bit. Anyway I would love to hear your suggestions.

Also of it's something that I can buy now, and put a better pump on on the future to improve performance, I would be down for that too.

When i bought my skimmer I had a super small budget due to the wife. Read on a different forum about SCA-301. I have been very pleased so far. With your size tank you probably want to go with the SCA-302, but I heard good things about that one as well. Check it out hopefully it will work for you.

I'm going to have to look into the bubble Magus a bit more apparently. Looks like the ASM G2 is too big for my sump.

How do the bubble Magus compare to the reef octopus classic 150int? Similar in price...the one thing I do like about the reef octopus is I could upgrade to the bubble blaster pump down the road if I wanted to...not sure about upgrades on the BM.

I'm appreciating the help so far for sure.

I must say, the more I read the more appealing the BM curve 5 is

I've got the reef octopus classic 150 and love it! Also thought about trying out the coral box d700 :)

ANARCHY

Hey, does anyone run a Bubble Magus Curve 5 on a 75G or higher tank? I keep reading varying ratings on it, the lowest being 65G.... The 65g rating was on the Sea Side Aquatics version with the sicce pump....

I would go with seaside aquatics es5 over the BM. Same thing as BM curve 5 but with a sicce pump.

Or the Vertex omega would be a good choice. A little over $300 but not by much.

An aquamaxx CO-1 would be also be a great choice too. As well as one of the skimz.

I have the SCA 302 on roughly 55 gallon heavy load and it does well but you get what you pay for. It's cheaper and works well but the materials are not up to par with a more expensive skimmer.

check the reef octopus prime150, if you can fit it in your sump.? the footprint is 11.62″ x 9.85″.
its on sale for $250 on premium aquatics right now.

IMO i won't consider the bubble magus.

What's wrong with the bubble Magus? I'm curious...it comes highly recommended via several forums.

Unfortunately the prime won't fit. Ugh

there is nothing wrong with the BM. i am currently using both BM and octopus for my tanks. IMO, BM will work, but not as good.
if you are planning on a FOT or a softy tank, it should be fine.

But the main thing is price. compare to the price in asia, bm curve5 for $80, bm curve7 for $120, i don't think you will get what you pay for.

also, im pretty sure BM c5 is not large enough for ur 75.

Yeah after researching, I wouldn't go for the bm5, I would use the BM 7. My problem is I need the best skimmer I can afford, and a bunch of those aren't going to fit in my sump. I'm sure as shooting not going to go get a new sump either.

i have a bm curve7 for one of my clown broodstock system. 7 pairs, total 100gallon.
im doing 4gal water change daily, so 25% everyweek. i had a hard time keeping no3 lower than 20.

I could be wrong, and I'm not trying to offend, pick a fight or anything, but wouldn't actually changing 25% every week be more effective than 4 gallons a day? I didn't think changing water like that would have a cumulative effect like you state is does.... I'm wondering if doing a bigger change less often would help with your nitrates?

The seaside aquatics es series is exactly the same as the BM curves but with a better pump. So if you're leaning towards the BM the seaside aquatics would be a good option
