    Sump nems, who’s done it?

    Chat this morning get me thinking on it. Who has kept a nem of any sort in the sump for more than short term? I’d expect rock and mini carpets to be most suitable, but anyone tried something else? If so what lighting did you use? Did you have to spot feed or did detritus alone keep them going?

    Are you serious about water testing accuracy? Hach DR-2000

    I’m a “bit” obsessive. I wanted to share my results and equipment for anyone else who is as critical of hobby grade tests. It wasn’t cheap but relatively it is. I picked up a used Hach Drel spectrophotometer kit on ebay for $360 shipped...

    Equipment review: Oakton Conductivity meter

    I’ve had the meter for a couple weeks now, and so far I think this is finally an accurate conductivity meter. I’ve been using the Pinpoint salinity meter for a couple years, and my first 2 were pretty accurate. The probe had a fault on the second meter while it was under warranty, so I was sent...

    Generator = peace of mind

    The first power outage in a couple years is over, about 6-7 hours in length. Thank goodness for battery powered power heads and a generator. My reef is as happy now that commercial AC is back as it was before it went out. I know there are many reefers out there without one or both. It's only a...

    How smart are our SW fish?

    Who wants to share the ways their fish have left you wondering? I dismissed it the first few times but now it is hard to ignore. My sargassum trigger has learned I come to the tank if it splashes. I feed frozen every night about 7:40. If I have not feed and am sitting within eyesight of the...
