Santa Monica UAS ATS Turf Scrubber review - hog and surf - EPIC FAILURE

Just read this entire thread. My hog.5 has never grown anything on it. The only thing that grows is a slimy green growth on the wall of the sump where it is located. I guess after reading all of this that I will try snagging some of the ha in the tank and putting it on the white portion?

Weird, I harvest mine every 2 weeks...here's Saturday's

Good luck. There are several of us in the same boat. It floats like a boat, but you feel like you're in the boat without a paddle... The longer I've had it and more reviews have been given the more the idea just doesn't work well in the real world outside of the obvious marketing. A few people on here have had luck, but it's the minority.

I've tired seeding mine with HA along with other types. Nothing ever lasted long term. Nothing to stop you from trying and hoping for better results.

Perfect timing. Exacctly, it works great on a few people's tanks. There's the proof. The rest of us get green slime and are told to tooth brush it off or sell the scrubber to somebody else to have them try.

JFYI, I found airflow and photoperiod to matter more than I expected. I found a deal on a Tetra AP300 on Amazon for $55 and that combined with 18hrs of light got it cranking.

My gripe with Santa Monica scrubbers is the magnet installation. Every one of the magnets on the wet side were exposed to water and rusted/expanded.

I hate to think what the metal leached into my tank has done / may do. A plastic coating would have been nice.

Never had an issue with growth though.

Wow for the price they cost what a pos product that is obviously they didnt do much testing

I have a Tetra AP150. I have played with the lighting plenty. I am starting from square one with a 16 hour light period. I will try snagging some HA from the ST to place on the pad. I am also assuming that I should take care to make sure I keep the green slime cleaned off the sump wall so that the light is being as effective as possible? I have never been successful growing chaeto...some said my system was too clean. That did not seem to be an issue with the Bubble Algae outbreaks and HA that continually pop-up in the ST.

Santa Monica sent me replacement magnets. I didn't like the idea of doing that again since silicone doesn't attach to plastic and the thing is plastic. I bought some heat shrink wrap tubes made for marine to wrap the magnets (prob not saltwater tanks but hey) and then siliconed all sides before sticking it on the plastic cover.. That way it will be waterproof twice over.

We'll see what happens but first sign of something off, trashing it.

Pulled my hog3 out today, really gave it a cleaning, well..... All 6 magnets on the wetside have rusted through their shit ass liquid electrical tape "waterproofing." I suppose the life expectancy of all hogs are less than 2 years and within that, I wonder how much metal or other nasties the rusting magnets released.

I mean really, WTF? How hard is it to do the job right? Just use clear casting resin and totally seal the magnets.

I'm going to do it right myself, actually giving a shit about the end product. Afterwards it's going up for sale, most likely fleabay but if anyone is reading and wants to try the damm worthless thing let me know.

Could you sleep at night building shit like this? Even if I used factory replacements and sold it, I couldn't sleep knowing the next person will get the same failure.

I guess it's the first time the problem has been brought to the attention of the manufacturer.... :suicide:

Sorry Madjoe, Not picking on you. Just pissed... Has anyone had a hog last more than 2.5 years without the magnets rusting?
