JVC's JBJ 12 "Budget" Build

Unfortunately I believe the reason I have now lost a Chromis, Six Line, Bangaii Cardinal AND two emerald crabs is due to this pistol shrimp. There are now no fish in my take besides my Goby... currently trying to trap the Pistol Shrimp so I can return him to MCF orrrrrrr He's free to anyone who wants him with the understanding that I believe he killed the other fish in my tank. I feel if you had a bigger tank with bigger fish he might not be able to do as much damage but I cannot guarantee that.

Free Pistol Shrimp?

Man that shrimp took out all of them? Didn't u have a ywgoby? Did it pair up with it? But check ur parameters. With all those dead fish ur levels might b out of line.

+1 Very doubtful it was the shrimp. I would look elsewhere for the issue. All fish from the same store?

I have had my parameters checked at Midwest Coral Farms relatively often and 2 gallon water changes done every weekend. I do have a Yellow Watchman Goby, seems to be fine with him.

All fish have been from Midwest Coral Farms... most livestock has been from there too.

As I have read some pistol shrimp have been known to kill/attack other fish. Personally I have seen him eating one emerald crab and I have seen him attack passing by red leg hermits and snails. Starts hitting them with his arms then drags them into a cave.

At this point, he's at LEAST messing up my tank a whole bunch and it was cool seeing him dig, but I have to move corals out from under the sand every day or I may never see some of them again, I just want to get rid of it at this point and see if that solves any issues. It will at least rid of him for messing up my tank over and over.

Oh ok. Yea if I were u I would get him out and put him in a container with holes in it in ur tank. Until u give it away or return it

You read my mind. If I catch him, he's going in a water bottle with holes in it until someone takes him. Trying to get him out but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Got him!

Came up this morning and he was in the trap, I took apart the two bottles and then took another bottle bottom and slipped it over the first basically making a giant tube, cut some slits in it for water flow and this will be his home for a little while. haha

Nice catch. Shouldn't be too hard to get rid of him!

Yeah, it truly is amazing. I am glad to have captured this guy, came up this morning to my tank and he was in the trap so note to self, it may take a while to catch them!

I might be trading him to Fishbeard for a frag or something which sounds way better than having tons of tunnels and sand thrown on all of my corals.

Got plenty to trade, just gotta mesh with schedules. Lucky for me I have an empty tank. Looks like I gotta go goby shopping now...

I could potentially sell my yellow watchman too, I'm not super attached to him and they seem to be friends. I can then get a different goby or something else. Let me know if you're interested. We could figure something out.

Sounds fair if the price is right. Might be inspirational to have a clean slate to start from regarding livestock.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I'd have to check what I paid for the YWG buy I know it wasn't too horribly much.

Going to have to do a big tank update, either tomorrow or monday, but for now I'll say some changes.

Small hammer on top of right rock and candy canes were given to a friend who just started a tank, big hammer was traded for a different colored hammer that will eventually hopefully fill in the same space. Another ricordea was picked up tonight from the holiday party as well as an acan frag. Also picked up some Duncans, and some fancy zoos from Fishbeard.

Pistol shrimp is gone, tank now contains a YWG and two of Blakes black clowns as pictured below.
