Cheap, easy, sexy, and effective DIY overflow!

I found this idea on YouTube, and built one myself, to check it out. After fine tuning the flow, and getting everything right, it's amazing! It's very unobtrusive, painted black, with a black background. Check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MssBnX6poII

    3D printed Protein Skimmer

I thought this was pretty cool. For those of you who own a 3D printer, files will soon be available so you can try it out. http://reefbuilders.com/2014/03/31/diy-3d-printed-protein-skimmer/

More material supporting sub 500nm wavelengths! Well, for better color, that is.

You don't have to purchase the full article. The short version is pretty rounded. You have to click "Look inside". Seems that corals provided with wavelengths below 500nm, simply adjust their pigment to better utilize the incoming light for photosynthesis. Intensity, will obviously exacerbate...

    Planning a new rimless build

I'm looking ahead and planning to tackle another DIY rimless tank build. Dimensions will be 36x30x16, using 3/8 all around and a starphire front panel. I love the look of AIO's, so I'm going to add a false acrylic rear wall, so I can incorporate overflow teeth across the center 2/3's of the...

Found some of these guys sprouting up

Not sure if they'll become a problem. Should I banish them to a super glue tomb?

Is anyone else using one? Is the ticking noise while rotating, normal?

    Super 8

I've been busy and away for quite some time, but I can't quite kick the urge. I just placed this order tonight. Planning to go with some eye popping colors on some lps, montipora and zoas. Not sure what fish I plan to get, maybe a bluespotted jawfish and some shrimp. I'm gonna chisel and...

    Frameless 40b SPS build

I haven't really felt like I had a "build" worthy thread, until this one.. I'm pretty excited with the way it's turning out. I had a 40b up for sale, that I decided to convert into an SPS only setup. I started with removing the frame, resealing the visible silicone seams with black, and now...

    Our 90g mixed reef

It's been up and running for almost 2 months now, diatoms are gone and everything is pretty stable. I'm still lacking a decent skimmer, but since my bioload isn't much, my setup is sufficient, for now. Always adding new frags, kinda going for lots of different zoas across the bottom, different...

More than one use for the Aqua Medic fish trap!

So, I was playing action figures with my son and noticed the trap sitting on top of our tank. It's the perfect plastic prison for Magneto! It took Deadpool, Mr. Sinister, Juggernaut, Gideon, Apocalypse, and Pyro to free him! Hahaha I love having kids. Birthday present 2012

    Harlequin shrimp!

Hopefully the solution to my zoa eating asterinas! I want to thank TL for directing me to Aquapros, so I could scoop this little guy up. Picking up a couple large stars to throw in the sump and rotate cutting parts off, to keep this guy alive. Although, I have thousands of little brittle...

    ID?

So, I gave this zoa rock to my ex, for the kid's tank at her house. It was full of those vibrant green zoas you see in the photo. Well, the zoas did not do well in her tank at all, never opened up. When I took the rock back, there was a lot of die off, but the remaining are going strong...

    Devil's lake

Does anybody go there? Great place for snorkeling in the early months of Summer. Visibility is great, motorized watercraft are prohibited and there is tons of wildlife underwater. Not to mention, the rock climbing is second to none in the Midwest! Getting my top rope instructor certification...

    DIY Surge Tank

So, I bought 2 chinese powerheads in December, and I'm now down to one. I was talking with Greg and Tethered_Limbs in chat the other day, and I was mentioning that I was interested in an MP40. Well, somehow they got on topic about the surge tank at MCF. I love DIY, so of course I asked...

Viper chalice - New eyes, or?

So, it has been growing nicely, starting to spill over the edge of the plug. Just noticed these new spots showing up within the last week or so. Are they new eyes developing, or something I should worry about? They are mainly in the 3-6 o'clock section of the frag, but also in other spots.
